Best Milan Fashion Week Spring 2024 Street Style Trends
There were a lot of big questions heading into Milan Fashion Week's spring 2024 season: How would Sabato De Sarno re-introduce Gucci? What visual tricks would master leather manipulator Matthieu Blazy pull at Bottega Veneta? Which house would be responsible for Spring 2024's first It-bag? But one thing I never wondered was whether Milan's street style would bring fall outfit inspiration—this is a city that always delivers.
Each season, Milan Fashion Week's best street style embodies the best of the biggest trends while conveying a maximalist refinement that's all its own. Case in point, this year's show goers went bold in head-to-toe fire engine red (Fall 2023's favorite color), but also showcased the power of simplicity, wearing straightforward combinations like a simple miniskirt, leather jacket, and loafers (with socks). The clothing was practical, sensual, and totally wearable outside of non-fashion week events, and an underrated shoe style got its due. Ahead, see four street style trends from Milan's spring 2024 season that anyone can wear this fall.
Milan Fashion Week Spring 2024 Street Style Trend: Red Knitwear

If anyone doubted whether Fall 2023's red trend would make it off the runway and into real life, Milan Fashion Week street style confirmed that it's the shade of the moment. Pops of red came in all forms: in statement red designer bags by Gucci and Ferragamo, in bright red blazers and coordinating trousers (or just a pair of tights), and in easygoing knit sweaters.
It's the knitwear that personally sold me on the rise of all things red. Layered with a white T-shirt and a blazer, incorporated into a printed sweater vest, or undone over a mini skirt and tights, Milan's red sweaters were a way to draw eyes without an overcomplicated look. In a palette this bright, one simple crewneck or button-up cardigan was all guests needed to bring some interest into a sweater weather outfit.

There's an unwritten guarantee that September fashion weeks will be filled with coat inspiration, given that the shows arrive at precisely the same time as the season changes from summer to fall. Milan Fashion Week delivered a coat trend with sprezzatura to spare this season: oversize leather aviator jackets.
Leather bombers have always conveyed cool nonchalance with their uniform-inspired cuts and the way their material develops a patina. In Milan street style, aviators were so convincingly layered over denim, pencil skirts, and midi dresses that I currently have two waiting in my own shopping cart.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2024 Street Style Trend: Sharp-Toed Kitten Heels and Flats

Milan is not a city for sneakerheads—at least not during fashion week. Instead, most guests darted from show to show in pointed-toe kitten heels and slingback flats. I saw a lot of love for the flower-adorned kitten heels from Prada's Fall 2023 collection (and not just in Mrs. Prada's front row), as well as Gucci's gold-embellished slingback heels. No matter the brand, fashion week's finest points balanced comfortable, walkable silhouettes with a sharpness that's eternally polished.

From Kendall Jenner's Met Gala appearance to throngs of editors outside this season's fashion shows, forgoing pants for just a jacket and a statement shoe is the risqué styling move du jour. At Milan Fashion Week, pants-less looks were accompanied by bright, tonal tights—many of them in the aforementioned bold shade, but not exclusively. Insiders also coordinated their mini-mini dresses and hot pants with tights in emerald green, cream, and matte black. Mytheresa fashion director Tiffany Hsu's combination of a double-breasted coat and tights was all the convincing I needed to test-drive the look immediately.
